Our Approach
At Your Psychology we provide psychological counselling using traditional methods for the treatment of mental and emotional disorders.
There are many orientations to psychological counselling, however, we mostly utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and EMDR Therapy due to considerable empirically based research that suggests their effectiveness.

Your GP can refer you for a Medicare recognized mental health condition. Medicare rebates can then be accessed for up to 10 sessions per year.

Defence Members
If you have a DVA gold or white card that covers you for mental health conditions, your GP can refer you for up to 12 sessions per referral. Current serving members can also be referred via defence health/BUPA, or through Open Arms. Family members can also be referred through the Open Arms pathway.
Private
Everyone is able to book an appointment without a referral. Please note that Medicare rebates are not available in this circumstance. You may be eligible for a rebate under your private health insurance if you are covered for psychology. Please check this with your individual insurance provider.

What we do
At Your Psychology experienced psychologists provide a range of interventions targeted at helping clients to reduce and manage symptoms of mental health conditions, as well as to implement changes that may assist with longer term improved mental health and overall functioning. We do this through offering therapies across different levels of treatment, depending on your individual needs. These therapies include:
Supportive therapies
This first layer of interventions include supportive counselling to explore stress management including sleep hygiene and mindfulness techniques, problem solving, decision making and techniques to improve relationships. This can also assist with working through and managing crisis. Your Psychology creates a welcome space for these to be explored either stand alone or in conjunction with further therapies.
Behavioural therapies
At Your Psychology you will have access to clinicians who are trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Schema Therapy. These are well researched modalities that can be helpful in understanding the thought processes, underlying belief systems and behaviour patterns that may be impacting on mental health, relationships and overall functioning. Your Psychologist can guide you through understanding and adopting statues that will assist you in slowly working towards change in these areas.
Trauma informed therapies
At Your Psychology we understand the complexity of life and that trauma can surface in many different ways. We have clinicians trained in Schema Therapy, EMDR Therapy, Graded exposure Therapy and Sandplay Therapy. If you would like to explore these therapies please advise at the time of booking and we can direct you to the psychologists trained in these areas.
Important Information
Appointment Reminders & Cancellation Policy
Appointments are typically 50 minutes duration. Once an appointment is scheduled we will considered it confirmed and will assume you are attending unless you advise us otherwise.
As a courtesy we will send out a reminder text 48 to 72 hours prior to your appointment. You do not need to respond to this message unless you would like to reschedule or if you would like the appointment to be via telehealth.
Your Psychology often has a wait list. In order to ensure we can offer cancelled appointment times to others, we require a minimum of 24 hours notice of cancellations. There may be a cancellation fee of $110 unless you provide 24 hours notice of cancellation, or unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control.
If your session is being paid for by a third party, they typically will not pay for the cancellation fee and you will be liable to pay. Please note our office manager will automatically send a cancellation fee when less than 24 hours notice is given, as it is not up to the office manager to determine individual circumstances. Please discuss your circumstances with your psychologist should you be concerned about a cancellation fee you have received.
Our Office Hours
Our office administration is only available during business hours - 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. You may still leave messages after hours, however these will not be answered until the next business day.
